Haliburton & Bancroft Midwives is excited to be welcoming three third year students during the 2017-2018 school year. Each student will be spending one month with our practice and learning about the challenges and joys of caring for women in a large rural area without access to hospitals within the community.
The third year of midwifery is one of varied experiences and, frequently, lots of moving! Students spend one month each with an obstetrician, a birthing nurse and a paediatrician/NICU nurse. They also have the opportunity to spend two additional months at locations of their choosing. These placements can be in remote communities such as Rankin Inlet or Nunavut; at correctional facilitates; with lactation consultants; or in HIV positive populations, to name a few options. Our location is popular among students due to our rural area, high home birth numbers, and of course, the beauty of the Highlands.
The bios of our students are available in our clinics and on our Facebook page. Every client has the ability to decline students in their care at any point in time. We are grateful to all the women who have invited students into their care as this helps further the midwifery profession in Canada.
