A new chapter for the midwives begin

Today is the last day for Rebecca Weeks-Basciano at the Miwifery Services of Haliburton-Bancroft and before we get to her goodbye message below, we all wanted to take the opportunity to say how we will miss her dearly. Words cannot express our gratitude for her and all of the love and hard work she has put into this community over the years. As we continue to strive to provide excellent services for families in this community, we will think of her - it won't be the same without her!

"Hello from Nunavik! I just wanted to let everyone know that my life has taken a little detour and I am writing this post to announce that I am leaving Midwifery Services of Haliburton-Bancroft and will be working in Nunavik on the north eastern shore of Hudson Bay! The same convicting force that motivated me to open a midwifery practice in Haliburton and Bancroft in 2008 has led me here. Now that the Haliburton & Bancroft Midwives have become well established in our communities, it is time for me to focus my attention on something that has always held my heart – the far north and supporting birth in these communities! I work in Inuit communities, in small hospitals supporting Inuit midwives and their maternity units. It is an honour to work with these midwives and these families just as it was an honour to work with all my colleagues in Haliburton and Bancroft and with the many families I got to know – I am blessed to have known you all. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, your families and to work with all of you. I will always carry these memories in my heart. I am leaving you with a picture of my dear colleagues here in Puvirnituq."

Annalee Winter will step into Rebecca's shoes and along with this passing of the torch, we're also undergoing a small name change. Going forward we will be operating as Haliburton & Bancroft Midwives or HBMW for short, using our new hbmw.ca domain name.
