Registered Midwife

I had the privilege of joining Haliburton & Bancroft Midwives in 2017. I am honoured to have the chance to get to know the people of this community through my work here. I hope to contribute to helping our community access quality healthcare as close to home as possible, and believe that there is something special about work and life in a small and beautiful rural community.

Midwifery was in my mind and heart before I knew it. While I was growing up, my mother was a doula and a La Leche League leader, which I believe sparked my interest in individualized, one-on-one person centred care at an early age. Before completing my midwifery training, I finished a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and a master’s in human nutrition at the University of Guelph. During and between these years, I worked as a lab coordinator and field technician for the University of Guelph/Ontario Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural affairs, as a research assistant, and as teaching assistant in the field of applied nutrition. I realized that my awe of pregnancy and birth was something that I wanted to build into my life and career, and I applied to the Midwifery Education Program at McMaster University. I had clinical placements in Guelph, Kitchener, Barrie and Tanzania. I feel privileged to have spent the first years of my career working in the city of Hamilton. The busy community gave me the opportunity to consolidate my skills, work with a very diverse population and be involved in teaching with the Midwifery Education Program.

My partner and I both grew up in rural Ontario and after more than a decade of schooling and “city life”, we are happy to call Haliburton home. Just before moving to Haliburton, we joyfully welcomed our first baby into the world, “caught” by midwives in our Hamilton home. Rebecca helped with the birth of our second baby in Haliburton in late 2019. When I’m not working, you will likely find me outdoors somewhere with my family. Please say hello if our paths cross!
