Second Attendant

I am joining Haliburton-Bancroft Midwifery Services as a second attendant after returning from midwifery training in the Philippines. I recently completed a 2-year program there that allowed me to gain valuable hands-on experience in many different scenarios while completing my course requirements. I have attended about 150 births during my training in varying capacities. Growing up, I wanted to be a nurse or teacher. I put the idea of anything health-care-related aside and started pursuing teaching before deciding I wanted to be a therapist. I graduated from York University with a double major in Psychology and African Studies. I also completed a certificate of Christian studies from Tyndale University. Since graduating from university, I have lived in Mozambique, Micronesia, and the Philippines for varying amounts of time. I was able to learn about different cultures, survival skills, and missions during these times. I have also been in hospitals in each of these nations and seen the need for quality and compassionate midwifery care for both women and babies. In the last 5 years, I started becoming interested in delivering babies and pursuing midwifery. I did my doula training and explored my options. Due to my interest in working internationally, I felt an American degree done overseas would best suit my needs. I have loved working with women to achieve a healthy and safe pregnancy, presenting options they didn't know were possible, and supporting them through labour and birth. It is a privilege to help welcome new life into the world and to help families adjust after birth. I have an interest in learning more about the psychological aspects of birth and how mothers and babies interact from conception and throughout life. I love midwifery due to its diversity that incorporates many of my interests and previous pursuits in life!
